Overlooked & Underutilized – Pt. 2

by Ashley Jensen in Blog, Christianity, COMMUNICATE

This week I continue the second week in a 2 week series on being overlooked and underutilized. This is something I’ve learned and continue to learn in life. Hopefully you’ll get something out of it as well!

You can learn from being overlooked and underutilized.

I’ve learned that when uncomfortable things happen to us we can turn those things into learning. God is always teaching us but are we learning the lesson? Whatever situation we find ourselves in, we can turn it from something happening to us and make it something that God wants to work through us! It’s what I call, “Training for Reigning.”

3 Things I’ve learned when being Overlooked and Underutilized…

1. God loves you and He knows right where you need to be.

Ephesians 3:20 NKJV
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

God’s plan is so much bigger and better than our plan. He has more for us than we could ever imagine! I think if we had our way to do our plan… we’d mess up God’s plan. God’s plan is sovereign. We may make bad choices and sin. Sin can throw us off and postpone our destiny but ultimately if we are God’s child and we claim to be saved, then we must trust that God’s plan is in place. We may get off track but God is always on track and He has us right where He wants us. Don’t get frustrated where you are at but instead make a choice to learn from it.

2. People may overlook you but God doesn’t.

Romans 8:28 NKJV
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

I can’t tell you how many times I was overlooked. I used to get my feeling s hurt and get all offended but through some painful experiences I’ve learned that I’m God’s kid and He is in control of our destiny! God will make people like you if it’s His plan. No one can hold you back from God’s best! Your moment of rejection is your set up for God’s promotion or protection. God knows what you need and when you need it. He will make sure you need to be where you need to be. Listen, God has not forgotten about you! If we knew all the answers to the questions it wouldn’t be faith and there wouldn’t be a need for trust. It’s all between us and the Lord, so STOP looking to others for security, encouragement, and promotion! Look to the Lord!

3. Your gift may be underutilized because your character isn’t ready.

God will use flawed people. He has no choice because we are all flawed! He is also a God of wisdom and He gives us opportunities as our character develops. When we lapse in our character we have to take a couple steps back. As our character continue to develops, He brings us to new levels of opportunity and influence. It’s kinda like giving a 16 year old a brand new Ferrari as a first car. No good father in their right mind would do that to a child. Why? Because they can’t handle it yet. It’s the same thing with this gift we have. God is more interested with our character than our charisma, He’s more interested in our calling than our career. God will never allow your gift to take you where your character can’t keep you.

It always comes back to our hearts and how we are living for an audience of one.

So the question is… How are you doing with that?

Thank you for this! Every day I read messages from Joel because they seem to strike home for me. I tell you what this one here hit a home run for me. I was very down and felt overlooked recently. My plans of my life are not where I hoped they would be by now.
I am so thankful to have read your message!! It just woke me up and gave me a new perspective and I believe that I will read this everyday this week to remind me that God is in control and I need to keep the faith.
