If you’ve not heard of Tim Sanders, let me introduce you. Tim is a people-centric business expert who goes way beyond the bottom-line and gets right to the point… people. People are the point. Through his keynotes and books, Tim’s passion for people shines through. He is definitely a force for good in a time that seems contradictory to anything positive.
I first was introduced to Tim when he spoke at a Catalyst conference and his book “Love is the Killer App” first came out and it’s easy for me to say I’ve been impressed with his work ever since. As a communicator myself, I’ve always been intrigued with how people communicate with other people and Tim is one of the best. I’ve always said I can learn from anybody and I’ve learned quite a bit from him.
His current offering, Today We Are Rich, is sure to be a hit. It’s available March 29th and I highly recommend you pick it up along with several copies for your friends and family. When Tim did a Twitter announcement about his new book and that he’d be sending out advanced copies for anyone wanting to do a book review, I was all over it. So commence the reviewing…
My thoughts on Today We Are Rich
After reading this book I stepped back and said to myself, “I am a rich man.” I’m not rich by typical standards but that’s where we can be misled by the title. The book is not about getting financial wealth but to me it communicates the riches of the soul and how spiritually rich I really am. Seriously, if I died today (I know, morbid thought) but if it were to happen, I can say I died a rich man not because of the stuff in my life or my bank account but because of the relationships in my life. Having the love of my beautiful wife, the respect and admiration of my daughters, and just the sheer grace that God has shown me time and time again… I am a rich man. The funny thing is if you truly live the 7 Principles of Confidence in this book not only will you be rich in your soul, the material wealth will come too.
He writes from his own life being raised by his grandmother, Billye Coffman and she goes on to teach Tim these principles. I can identify completely because it totally reminds me of the same kind of advice my late Granny Rich would give me time after time. I actually thought of her often while reading through this book. For me, the great part about this book is that Tim doesn’t hide where he comes from, he talks about his faith and his heritage. He doesn’t try and water things down to make it more palatable but he communicates in a way that really helps people. Coming from a big dysfunctional family I’ve always been surrounded by negative words and attitudes. I think that’s one of the reasons why I was so attracted to the word of faith movement early on in my journey as a Christian. This book isn’t a word of faith teaching by any means but it does help me get back to some of those roots. Back to understanding the power of words. It completely reminds me of this scripture…

The whole book isn’t about just how you talk, but how you think and ultimately how you can live an amazing life. I connected with the stories Tim writes all throughout his book, sometimes finding myself with tears rolling down my face! It was like he studied my ‘sideways years’ (chapter 1 from the book) and wrote about how I was feeling. This book has had a profound impact on me. Probably one of the most helpful books I’ve read in a long time. I strongly encourage everybody to pick it up.
