Watch Yo Mouth!
James 3:1-12 NKJV
1My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment. 2For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. 3Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. 4Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. 5Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 6And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. 7For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 8But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. 11Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? 12Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.
Proverbs 18:21 NKJV
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
Our words have power. You get what you speak. Every careless word spoken. Gossip, complaining, and the opposite is true as well. What we say we are thankful for produces fruit. If you don’t like what is materializing in your life then change your language. Instead of saying how lazy your husband is say how helpful he is. Instead of saying how broke you are speak how much God has blessed you. Words have creative power. God hovered over the waters and SAID! If you’re a Christian, the same Holy Spirit resides in you that created the heavens of the earth with the power of His words.
By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
When we stop saying the negative we stop experiencing the negative. When we start speaking the blessing we start experiencing the blessing. In order to speak correctly we need to think correctly. Our hearts will always be the issue, what’s happening in our hearts is the key to what will happen in our life.
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
Proverbs 4:23 AMP
Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.
We need to train our spirits and our hearts to overcome our souls and our flesh. We need to train ourselves to become victorious! People that think wrong, believe wrong, and when you believe wrong, you speak wrong and when you think, believe, and speak wrong… you act wrong. Our life becomes a negative current of thoughts, actions, and words and it must be shifted in order to live the abundant life God has called us to. Negativity brings darkness to our world… so how do we overcome darkness? Light… and God’s word is light.
Psalm 119:130 NKJV
The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.
Psalms 119:105 NKJV
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
It’s as if we need to reprogram our language. We need to get sickness, disease, lack, and death out of our vocabulary. “I’m dying to do that!” “I’m sick of this!” I love them to death.” “I’m broke, I can’t afford it.” And people say it’s just words… no big deal right? Wrong! Our words are a big deal. They create an environment. When Jesus went to heal Jairus’ daughter in Mark 5. He cleared the room of doubt!
It’s time we clear our lives of doubt and start to speak faith!
